That state bond measure covers new school construction and modernization projects. Amador Elementary qualified for the state money under Proposition 51. The district plans on making up the difference in funding ($31.6 million) from current developer fees, future developer fees and $28 million in state reimbursements for another project.
With the updated design, the estimated cost of phase 1 will be $166.6 million, according to the district. That budget was upped to $135 million to include a gym on campus, with all money coming from Measure H funds, a $282 million bond measure voters approved in June 2016 to raise funds to build a second high school and alleviate school overcrowding throughout the district. The district initially approved $100 million to be used for the first phase, which would hold 1,000 students.
The much-anticipated second high school has been a hot topic in the community, as the district grapples with increasing student enrollment.
